Friend or Foe, Understanding Routine Within Your Human Design
I recently was asked about how to set a routine that helps to feel grounded and stable in life.
The questions came at a time where I too was feeling like I was "needing" a more structured daily routine as an entrepreneur that works mostly from home. As I do live 23 miles from town in the mountains and I can find myself daydreaming as I look out the window at the beautiful scenery. I was feeling like it would help me feel more productive at the end of the day...even when I do accomplish many things each day.
So I turned to my favorite tool, Human Design to help me understand my feelings around having a daily routine and to be able to support my friend with her question.
This is what I discovered.
Is having a daily routine friend or foe when it comes to understanding your Human Design chart.

During this post I will share about the top and bottom left arrows and how they can relate to your understanding and aligning with your own energy regarding having a daily routine that works for you.
Human Design shares with us if we are aligned to and thrive within a daily routine or if we are designed for more freedom in mind and the need for intuition and variety to lead the way.
In todays society starting early on in school we are taught to have a routine for studying, sleep, eat all things daily life. Then move into your working life and hear about planners being key, structure and daily habits are the way to success and prosperity. Then work hard all day to achieve your goals. (I will touch on this another time.)
Don't get me wrong, I believe there is viability within these thoughts and processes for many but not all.
I will always go back to asking "what is in alignment" with YOU and your design? You are unique and you are not meant to do everything like everyone else.

TOP LEFT ARROW ~ DIGESTION
This arrow has to do with digesting of food and how you take in life and how you take in information and learn best.

You actively digest life. You enjoy and thrive when there is some kind of consistency and structure to your routines. You naturally take in information in a more logical and precise way. You may be able to recall exact details and memorize information easily. To do lists, calendars, daily rituals, meal planning and routines work best for you because you like to know what the next step is. Ritual and structure will enable you to live you best life. You likely perform at your best when you have more consistency in your life.
Consider how you would like to incorporate these into your daily schedule? Are there some rituals or habits you can look forward to integrating?
With food, you like to have some sort of routine like breakfast at a certain time everyday or following a specific way of eating. Fasting is not ideal for you, as you need more consistent intake of food to thrive.
For me, even without having the left facing arrow I still find ease in life with some structure such as meal planning as it takes the frustration out of not having the ingredients needed for a meal when living so far from a grocery store. I will still feel into my body each day and ask if the meal planned for this day lights me up. If not I look at my week plan and make the one that does. I mention this to share that there is no hard and fast way to live. Just use your awareness of your natural energy and flow with it within each moment of the day.

You passively digest life. Freedom and variety are your best friends! Talking my language here :) You may notice that following a strict structure is tough for you. This is because you naturally take in information in a fluid way. Which means that instead of remembering acute details you absorb all of the information about a situation. Maybe its remembering a feeling or deeper meaning instead of what someone actually said. You may not be able to recall or memorize exact details. Sometimes you can even respond with answers that you didn’t even know that you knew. Once I realized this about myself I now give myself grace for not recalling details and I have stopped getting down on myself for not remembering past experiences like others in my life.
With food, variety can be the name of the game. You also don’t need to eat in the same way all the time. Example, my husband has this in his chart and he can go days without eating any large meals then for several days eat everything in sight. It's about following your body's lead here. Not the old saying eat all of your meal. Fasting works well with your body! I enjoy intermittent fasting. If you have tried this and found it didn't work for you it could be your variable is pointing left here.

This arrow is about environments that you thrive in. This can be your physical space or mental space

This arrow is a sign you may enjoy a consistent and structured environment. You desire to spend long periods of time in one place, nesting, and getting super cozy and comfortable in your space. Being in a familiar environment brings you much comfort.
Having a designated place where you work, sleep, eat are important. Make sure these spaces are designed to feel good to you! This will help improve your productivity. If you have a job that requires you to move around a lot make sure you check in with a constant place to ground your energy (like a nearby park or a familiar cafe or coffee shop).
If you resonate with this and find it challenging to travel then try spending some extra time setting up your new location to feel more comfy and spend some time grounding yourself in the new space. I like to always say to my clients awareness is key and it gives you the opportunity to make new choices and to give yourself love and grace that you are who you are!

You thrive on mixing it up!! Exploring new environments brings you much creativity and inspiration. Having a set schedule and set place to be is not the best for you. I have this in my chart and I am constantly moving around my house to work. Some days I'm in my office or in the living room set up in the recliner to sitting up in my bed with all my books and papers spread allover. My family never knows where they will find me at the end of the day. LOL
Use your intuition and ask yourself where am I'm feeling called to be today?
Inspiration and a refreshed newness comes from travel and exploration for me. Discovering as many new places can bring you all kinds of creative inspiration. Feeling stuck or low energy? Get outside, go for a walk, shake up your environment and get the creative juices flowing. If you do work in an office, make sure you leave during the day for your lunch or breaks. Even getting up from your desk will bring you new energy and motivation. When I did work in an office I would get up and even walk around the office building a few times a day to just get some variety in the day.
As you can see there is no one answer for everyone regarding friend or foe for daily routine.
How can you take what you gathered here today and contemplate what is best for you and are you operating in alignment or do you want to make some pivots? Remember Human Design is a map to awareness, transformation and awakening to your authentic self.
